Follow the Dream
We respectfully acknowledge the Amangu People who are the Traditional Owners and First People of the land on which we live, work, and learn. We would also like to acknowledge our neighbouring tribes Jueet, Widi, Mullawa Wadjarri, Nuguja, Nhanda. We pay our respects to their Ancestors, Elders and Barna”.
Follow the Dream was established at Champion Bay Senior High School, formally John Willcock College, in 2004. The program is a supplementary program provided in WA public schools to promote Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing and support Aboriginal students to achieve their full learning potential, shape their own futures, and embrace their cultures, languages and identities as Australia’s First Nations people. The program provides after-school tuition and individualised mentoring, support and case management to assist and support these students to continue excelling at school, complete Year 12 and achieve a successful transition into university, training or meaningful post-school employment.
Follow The Dream encourages students to ‘Dream Big’ with purpose and in a setting that creates a sense of belonging. On completion of school, Follow the Dream students are well prepared to embark on successful career pathways and to identify as leaders and role models amongst their peers, families and communities.
- After school study sessions – specialist tutoring and mentoring is what sets our program apart. One-on-one and small group tutoring can help students excel in their favourite subjects and catch up in areas where they need some help. The after-school academic enrichment centre provides an environment for students to complete their homework, assessments, and prepare for exams,
- Program mentors – Mentoring has the power to change someone’s mindset, broaden their horizons, and empower them to follow their aspirations at school, in their careers and in life.
- Personalised learning plans – help guide the student in working toward achieving their academic, post school and career goals.
- Opportunities and experiences – Students experience a range of activities that enrich learning and broaden horizons. Post-school study and career options are explored, culture is celebrated and general capabilities that encompass knowledge, skills, behaviours and dispositions are developed to assist students to live and work.
