Selective Programs
Specialist Music Program
We have a vibrant music program which enable students to be Champions at Music through free instrumental lessons, a specialist music curriculum and ensembles. Our unique Violin Ensemble offers opportunities for students to learn the violin with our school-based music specialist.
Students in the Specialist Music Program attend weekly compulsory specialist music lessons for the year and weekly instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) lessons. They join an ensemble, such as the junior band, senior band, rock band (these occur weekly afterschool) or the guitar ensemble or Show Choir (these have before school and lunchtime rehearsals).
Champions at Music students complete the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) program which is an international qualification that is tailored to individual skill levels, musical interests with weekly feedback and grading. Students can achieve gold, silver or bronze awards.
Concerts and Performances at school and community events, ABODA Festivals and the annual Primary Schools Tour are integral to this music program.
Selection into this program is based on musical aptitude testing and other criteria. Students who studied music in primary school with IMSS can continue their study of brass (trumpet, trombone or baritone) and woodwind (clarinet or flute) instruments, guitar or bass.
New students entering Year 7 may apply for a beginner place in guitar and bass, saxophone, percussion or vocals.
Some instruments are available for hire through the school.
Applications for Champions at Music in Year 7 in 2025 open in Term 2.
