Year 6 Transition

Transitioning from primary to secondary school is a significant change for students and their families and can often be a time of mixed emotions. Champion Bay Senior High School recognises the challenges it may bring and has established a comprehensive and successful three-day transition to help alleviate stress, worry, anxiety and uncertainty.

During our transition program, students experience a ‘taster’ of life at high-school through a range of educational opportunities inside and outside of the classroom. Students become confident with using a timetable, more familiar with the physical layout of the school, participate in new learning areas such as Design and Technology and they begin to form new relationships with staff and students.

A unique and specialised Transition Program has also been developed for students with Special Education Needs where they attend several sessions prior to the three-day program. During this time staff get to know each student’s strengths, needs and interests and identify the support that will be required.

During Transition there are several opportunities for parents and guardians to become more familiar with our school by attending the Welcome Assembly, the Parent/Guardian Information session held on the evening of the first day or one of the daily tours.

A highlight of Transition is the Closing Assembly where students enjoy interacting with RAR lion and have an opportunity to use their RAR tickets to enter the RAR draw, in the hope of winning one of several prizes. Many students often leave our three-day Transition stating that they do not want to go back to primary school.
